This true limited-production bottling offers a lush, elegant expression of Russian River Valley Chardonnay with an alluring nose of spiced lemon and a soft, rich entry. On the palate, lovely weight and abundant fruit are supported by beautifully integrated French oak that helps to carry this Chardonnay to a long and satisfying finish.
The Bacigalupis are renowned winegrowers who have been growing grapes for more than 60 years. In fact, grapes from Bacigalupi Vineyard represented a significant portion of the Chardonnay that won the famous 1976 Judgment of Paris tasting that catapulted Californian wines onto the world wine stage. Our Chardonnay comes from the Bacigalupi’s acclaimed Frost Ranch on Westside Road in Healdsburg. Frost Ranch features several different clones, as well as a mixture of younger vines and some old, gnarly-trunked vines that have been there for decades.
In order to maximize quality, and achieve a distinctive textural element to the mouthfeel, the harvested grapes went directly to press as whole clusters, where they were gently pressed. After settling, the juice was racked into French oak barrels for fermentation. In fact, this wine spent its entire life in barrel, where it completed primary and secondary malo-lactic fermentations, and then was aged on the lees for ten months, with the lees occasionally stirred in order to increase richness and body.
