The MacRostie Healdsburg Guide
Celebrating the Best Local Hotels, Restaurants, Bars & Bites

While a day visit to our MacRostie Estate House in the heart of the Russian River Valley offers guests an unforgettable tasting experience, for those planning a more leisurely exploration of wine country, the picturesque town of Healdsburg is a must-visit destination. Centrally located in Northern Sonoma County less than 20 minutes from Santa Rosa and just 5 miles from our Estate House, the idyllic town of Healdsburg has a population of less than 15,000, ensuring its quaint charm. Despite its small-town vibe, Healdsburg has earned acclaim as a foodie paradise, with world-renowned wineries and restaurants, including Michelin-starred gems and family-owned favorites. Healdsburg’s restaurants and hotels are consistently featured on regional and national “best of wine country” lists in such publications as the New York Times, Conde Nast Traveler, and Sunset Magazine, and the town was just spotlighted by Wine Spectator in an article entitled “Healdsburg’s Big Moment: Small-town America meets wine country luxury in this vibrant village in Sonoma County.” With an array of acclaimed hotels, Healdsburg is an ideal home base for any extended stay in wine country.

We are delighted to share six of our favorite places to stay in Healdsburg, including hotels and resorts recommended by our Estate House team, as well as destinations that our guests and club members love to stay at when visiting MacRostie.

The Madrona

Established in 1881, the majestic mansion estate that is The Madrona is spread across eight acres and features classic hotel rooms, private bungalows, postcard-perfect gardens, and panoramic valley views, as well as a renowned restaurant that spotlights estate-grown ingredients and acclaimed local wineries. With leafy pathways and secluded nooks throughout the property, The Madrona is a magical place that was recently featured in Sunset Magazine’s 2022 Travel Awards. When visiting, guests can enjoy cocktails on the porch, high tea, or even classic movies on the grassy lawn.

Hotel Healdsburg

Located on the western edge of Healdsburg’s historic town plaza, Hotel Healdsburg is just minutes from an array of wonderful shops and restaurants. Offering a more modern take on wine country style, the hotel features beautifully appointed guest rooms, elegant country gardens, a pool, and a luxurious spa. Hotel Healdsburg is also home to one of Sonoma County’s most celebrated restaurants, Chef Charlie Palmer’s famed Dry Creek Kitchen, where guests can savor Sonoma County’s bounty of extraordinary wines and fresh seasonal ingredients.

Montage Healdsburg

One of wine country’s most gracious and refined retreats, Montage offers a memorable hideaway nestled among rolling vineyards. For the discerning traveler, Montage Healdsburg features 130 bungalow-style guestrooms and suites designed to highlight contemporary influences and environmentally conscious design. To highlight Montage’s beautiful setting, rooms feature expansive patios or decks. Montage is also home to an acclaimed spa, and equally acclaimed dining experiences, including the French-inspired, California-focused cuisine of Hazel Hill Restaurant. Montage’s two pools feature private cabanas and poolside dining.

Lodge at Healdsburg

Inspired by the villas of the Tuscan countryside, The Lodge at Healdsburg is one of Healdsburg’s newest boutique hotels. Tucked amid green hillsides and beautiful vineyards, it offers an inviting blend of old-world charm and modern-day convenience. With a heated outdoor pool and an al fresco piazza courtyard with a fire pit, it is a lovely spot to relax and unwind while exploring town, local wineries and nearby scenic hiking and biking trails. Alexander’s Café & Wine Bar at the hotel is open daily for breakfast and evening bites and features freshly roasted Black Oak coffee and delicious pastries from Cousteaux.
