About this Wine

Sourced from two sites farmed by the Dutton Family, this complex Chardonnay is pale yellow in color with complex aromas of baked apple pie and accentuates clean mellow fruit of gooseberry and citrus.

1.5L Magnum

92 Points

“This is a hearty wine from a famous place, farmed by esteemed, long-time growers. Apple and pear skin show up first, with a baked quality to the fruit that never gets jammy. The wine stays light and bright despite its full-bodied nature. Toasty lemon and fig compote finishes things off."

Tasting Notes

Dutton Ranch Chardonnay was immediately identifiable as being special and superior to others. The wine has baked apple pie aromas and accentuates clean mellow fruit of gooseberry and citrus. This wine has a mineral complexity that the Russian River Valley appellation brings to Chardonnay. It has richness and length in the palate that balance with the perfume and lemon citrus aromas.

Winemaking

In order to maximize quality, all grapes went direct to press as whole clusters. After pressing and settling, the juice was racked into French oak barrels for fermentation. Once dry and finished with malo-lactic fermentation, the lots were aged in barrel for ten months on the lees, with occasional stirring to increase richness and body. This wine was aged in French oak barrels for 10 months, of which, 20% was new. This wine was bottled in August of 2014.

Vintage
The 2013 vintage had ideal temperatures and growing conditions. The flavors were able to develop and show expressively. The vineyards were farmed meticulously in order to keep the vigorous canopy -from the fertile Goldridge Soil, famed to the Russian River Valley- balanced with the crop load on the vines. Two vineyard sites were used to compose this wine, Braughton on Vinehill Road and Hanson located at the Dutton Shop. Grapes were harvested on September 6th and September 8th of 2013.
Vineyard

The grapes for this Chardonnay came exclusively from a vineyard farmed by the renowned Dutton Family. The twelve best barrels made from this vineyard became the blend, each specifically selected for showing ideal and unique traits for this wine. The Dutton family has been growing grapes in Sonoma County—specifically the Russian River Valley—for generations. Their fruit is highly prized, as their meticulous farming has shown consistency and quality over the years.
