1.5L Magnum

93 Points

"Shy in its voluptuousness at first, this wine is taut in lemon and hazelnut goodness, with soft subtle oak in support of the fruit. A persistent streak of grapefruit intensity adds further freshness and vibrancy to the core of overall complexity and smooth, rounded richness."

Tasting Notes

This Chardonnay has a refreshing first impression in the aroma of fresh cut pineapple fruit with just a touch of grassiness. The palate is clean and crisp with Meyer lemon citrus highlighting the punctuated and giving finish.

Winemaking

In order to maximize quality, all grapes went direct to press as whole clusters. After pressing and settling, the juice was racked into French oak barrels for fermentation. Once dry and finished with malo-lactic fermentation, the lots were aged in barrel for 10 months on the lees, with occasional stirring to increase richness and body. This wine was aged in French oak barrels, 33% of which were new, and bottled in August 5, 2016.

Vintage

2015 was a vintage of low yields and moderate weather. This fruit came in healthy ripe, hand harvested on September 15, 2015.

Vineyard

This vineyard is located in the most western part of the Russian River Valley and is thus our coolest climate site. Old vines are planted to wide spacing during the era when larger tractors dictated that plenty of room be provided perform the farming work. The large sprawling vines are quadrilateral cordon Clone 4 on AXR rootstock. Sandy Goldridge soil provides these vines fertile ground to grow strong.
