Tasting Notes

The 2015 Goldrock Ridge Vineyard Chardonnay has an elegant fruit profile, with tantalizing aromas of green melon and white peach that mingle perfectly with hints of caramel and toasty oak. On the soft, generous palate, flavors of green apple and star fruit glide to a long generous finish, where a lovely streak of cool-climate acidity adds a hint of zing to remind you how special this wine is.

  • "This is from an extreme coastal site high above the town of Annapolis, a study in ocean-driven minerality and lift. A small production, it offers lengthy acidity and moderately toasty oak beneath a well of white peach, lemon and briny sea stone."

Winemaking

The whole clusters went direct to the press to be gently squeezed into tank. There, the juice was cold settled for 48 hours, and put down to barrel for fermentation. After 10 months of barrel aging in 30% new French oak, the wine was bottled on August 14th, 2016.

Vintage

The 2015 vintage started with an early bud break that accelerated the progress of the vintage. The warm growing season led to an earlier harvest compared to most vintages. We harvested our 4 tons of clone 76 Chardonnay from Goldrock RidgeVineyard by hand on September 12th, 2015.

Vineyard

Goldrock Ridge Vineyard is located just 4 miles, as the crow flies, from thePacific Ocean, in the very northwestern part of the Sonoma Coast appellation, near the town of Annapolis. Situated at an elevation of 600 feet, the vines largely grow above the fog line, ensuring ample sunshine to fully ripen the grapes and develop beautiful flavors. At the same time, the cool maritime breezes lengthen the growing season and provide optimal growing conditions for great Chardonnay.
