This luxurious Yountville Cabernet Sauvignon has a dense garnet color. Aromas of sweet oak, blueberry and blackberry fruit explode from the glass. The wine is voluptuous and fruit forward with full, soft tannin. On the palate, layers of fresh violet and generous fruit seamlessly mingle with the oak notes to give this wine complexity and character.
The grapes were harvested in late September of 2016 and destemmed and crushed into open-top fermenters. During fermentation, the grapes were pumped over two times a day for maximum extraction, with an extended maceration to achieve the color and tannin levels we were looking for. The wine was then pressed off of skins and aged for 24 months in 32% new French oak barrels. The bottling occurred on November 28th, 2018.
For almost 30 years, MacRostie has focused on making benchmark Sonoma County Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs. While this focus has allowed us to cultivate a remarkable level of experience, we are wine lovers who also find joy in exploring and discovering new regions and new wines. This is why, several years ago, we began incubating a new winery here at MacRostie. We called it Clockwise—a name that captures many of the elements that are important to us from a winemaking perspective, including timing, wisdom and knowledge. Just like at MacRostie, the winemaking for Clockwise is guided by gifted Winemaker Heidi Bridenhagen and winemaking icon Steve MacRostie. This exceptional 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is from a prized single vineyard in the acclaimed Yountville region of Napa Valley. It features three different clones: 7, 8, and 169, grown on a historic 140-year-old vineyard site. Well-drained Bale clay loam soil with Coombs gravelly loam help to give this Cabernet its distinctive character.
