About this Wine

Sourced from two specific blocks on the well-known Sangiacomo Vineyard: Catarina Block and Kiser B Block. We have worked with the Sangiacomo family’s Carneros fruit since 1987, and this vintage does not disappoint. The 2019 Sangiacomo Chardonnay brings aromas of yellow apple, brioche, preserved lemon and ginger spice. On the palate this Chardonnay is lush and round showing notes of golden apple, toasted bread, beeswax, white nectarine and a hint of white pepper spice.

“Starts off with terrific purity to the core of juicy green apple, pineapple and lemon curd flavors, expanding into details of spice, toasted brioche, candied ginger and lemon blossom on the long finish. Drink now through 2034.”

  • "Excellent; highly recommended “Crisp and earthy, with a rocky mineral component that adds grip and grit, this is a high-toned white, with effusive floral aromas and a depth of fruity flavor. Gravenstein apple pear and Meyer lemon characteristics are seasoned in a lengthy dash of nutmeg.”

Winemaking

In order to maximize quality, the harvested grapes went directly to press as whole clusters and were gently pressed. This provides a distinct mouthfeel texture. After settling, the juice was racked to French oak barrels for fermentation and aging, with a modest 13% new French oak, and 25% one-year old barrels. The wine was aged for ten months before being bottled on August 20, 2020.

Vintage

2019 was a remarkable growing season for most of Sonoma county with ample winter rainfall creating wet soil and cool temperatures that delayed budbreak in some areas. Spring and summer brought moderate to slightly above average temperatures, late May rains delayed flowering slightly but helped to produce smaller looser clusters that produce very flavorful and concentrated wines. Fruit was harvested on two separate days, September 25, 2019, for Kiser and, September 23rd 2019 for Catarina.

Vineyard

The grapes for this Chardonnay came from two different blocks of the famed Sangiacomo Vineyard, with the majority of the fruit coming from the Catarina Block and the remaining from the Sangiacomo’s equally renowned Kiser B Block. For three generations, the Sangiacomo family has been growing grapes in and around the town of Sonoma. Recognized as master winegrowers, their fruit is highly prized for its consistent quality and delicious flavor profiles. We have been proud to work with the Sangiacomo Vineyard since our debut 1987 vintage.
