This wine is the palest yellow color, showing a hint of green and crystal clarity. On the nose, rich aromas of honey and yellow apple mingle with more austere notes of lime and minerality. On the palate, flavors of tropical and stone fruit pair well with the soft and textured palate weight. The wine has refreshing acid that dances on the tongue, leaving you intrigued and sated at the same time.
In order to maximize quality, the harvested grapes went directly to press as whole clusters and were gently pressed. This provides a distinct mouthfeel texture. 100% of the fermentation was completed in stainless steel tanks to preserve aromatics. To ensure a bright, refreshing Sauvignon Blanc, it did not go through malolactic fermentation.
The 2021 vintage produced amazing wines. Yields were down slightly, and ripening occurred in a shorter period of time than most years. The vines had slightly stunted growth, perhaps from the drought or the fires the year before. Though things were picked earlier than usual, the weather was mild around harvest allowing the acids to be crisp and the berries to be ripe. The Sauvignon Blanc was harvested on September 7th and September 14th, 2021.
To craft this wine in 2021, we chose to work with three exceptional and distinctive vineyard sources. The Dutton family’s renowned Jewell Ranch has been a part of our Clockwise Sauvignon Blanc since its inception. The vineyard is planted to the Sauvignon Blanc “Musque” Clone, which provides beautiful aromatics, unique complexity, and a distinct tropical fruit-driven style. To complement those high-tone aromatics we also worked with two Russian River Valley vineyards, Preston Vineyard and Russian RiverRanch, to bring in bass notes to the blend, with crisp acid and concentrated flavors.
