This wine is the palest yellow-green color, with tropical aromas of fresh kiwi and starfruit, as well as hints of spice.
Beautiful floral jasmine notes and lime zest give the wine a heady presence. The palate is soft and full, with crisp, refreshing flavors of green apple and lime and a bright, energetic finish.
In order to maximize quality, the grapes went directly to press as whole clusters, and were gently pressed. This provides a distinct mouthfeel texture. To preserve aromatics and the wine’s bright, refreshing character, 100% of the fermentation was completed in stainless steel tanks and it did not go through malolactic fermentation. The wine was tank aged for just 5 months before being bottled young and fresh so that it is ready for the spring and summer months of outdoor socializing.
2024 was a dream harvest. It started off cool with slightly delayed-to-normal budbreak. Just when we were thinking it might be another cool vintage like 2023, the summer heat arrived to push the vines to ripen and mature the fruit. With steady temperatures throughout August and September, we were able to harvest exactly when we wished, with high quality and low disease pressure. To further enhance the two style components we were striving for, we picked the slow ripening sections a week earlier and the faster ripening rows a week later. The fruit was harvested on August 29th, 2024 at 22.1° Brix and September 9th, 2024 at 24.3° Brix.
For our 2024 Clockwise Sauvignon Blanc we worked with a single vineyard in the southeastern part of the Russian River Valley called Blake’s Launch. To achieve a balance of fruit-forward wine with a rich mouthfeel, bright acidity, and signature citrus and sweetgrass notes from just one vineyard, we asked the farming team to cultivate half of the rows with increased canopy shading to encourage slower ripening and the citrus and sweetgrass notes we prize. For the other half, we had them drop fruit to reduce yields and pull leaves for additional sun exposure to encourage quicker ripening for tropical aromas and a rich mid-palate.
